Summary 

Contrary to what we had thought, a wide range of information can be found on Internet concerning foreign investments in Uzbekistan.  The needs of economic development in the country's transition towards capitalism, impose to Uzbekistani authorities a certain frame of mind to attract foreign investments. In order to reach this aim, these authorities have developed some official web sites providing with information on all the procedures concerning investments in the country. And , through the Tacis program for co-operation with the Commonwealth of Independent States, the European Union supplies with a web site informing on aids, investments grants, co-operation and economic development projects for Uzbekistan . Also, getting in contact with commercial associations and diplomatic offices ( on Internet) can be very useful for your investments plans.

    Foreign Investments Agency
    Governmental agency created by presidential decree on the 21st of August 1995 and under the auspices of the United Nations Development Program. The main objectives are:
    Provide with the necessary services to implement investment plans with foreign capital. 
    Promote Uzbekistan as a place for foreign investments, by providing analytic data to potential investors.  
    Find grants and co-operation of financial institutions and give legal advice to potential investors.
The Agency informs on the main guidelines in economic policy and on the conditions imposed for investments (legal changes of 1997). The Agency provides interesting information on macro economy and statistics, mainly on the number of enterprises with a foreign capital share in Uzbekistan and an analysis by sector ( in your case, it is useful knowing that, in 1998, foreign investments reached  $798 millions, and that a 56% of foreign investments where in the industrial sector, of which, a 6,3% in food industry).

    The CER was established in January 1998 as a joint project of the Government of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Program. The objectives of the Centre are to research social and economic processes, prepare proposals to deepen the economic reforms and technical assistance  provided by international organizations .
