6. COSAC
In May 1989, the Presidents of the Parliaments of the Member States of the European Communities agreed, during their conference in Madrid, to strengthen the role of the national Parliaments in the Community process through the cooperation of the committees in charge of European Affairs within the parliaments. The representatives of these committees and the European Parliament decided to step up information exchange, especially concerning the control procedure for Community standardisation proposals, with a view to reducing the democratic deficit within the European Communities. 13. Euro-Mediterranean Partnership
The Euro Mediterranean Partnership was established by the Conference of Foreign Ministers held in Barcelona in 1995. It is a joint initiative by the 27 partners on both sides of the Mediterranean: the 15 member states of the European Union and Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and the Palestinian Territories. Libya has currently observer status. The website informs on the functioning of the Partnership and mainly on the three chapters it contains: political and security chapter, economic and financial chapter, social, cultural and human chapter.
