United Social Democratic Party
- The United Social Democratic Party is headed by Víktor Medvedchuk, Kuchma’s Chief of Staff. Medvedchuk is the leader of the Kiev Clan and his party was created after the Social Democratic Party (admitted to the Socialist International this year) headed by Yuri Buzdugán, who supports Yúshchenko. Ukrayinska Pravda (Truth of Ukraine)
- Georgi Gongadze, journalist assassinated in 2000, was editor in chief of this newspaper. It’s an independent newspaper and it also has an English version. Kuchma is blamed for Gongadze’s death, but no investigation has been carried out.

- 5 Kanal is the only independent television in Ukraine and its news and reports are very critical of the government. They have revealed several scandals. Its accounts have currently been frozen, and, in October 2004, 100 of its journalist went on hunger strike for a week.
